Prices of most of the essential kitchen items including tea, sugar, wheat flour, ghee/cooking oil, spices, pulses, chicken and fruits went up during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
Traders at grain and vegetable markets told Business Recorder that within the past few days, prices of every daily use items including essential kitchen items have gone up and only egg prices witnessed a decline. The survey observed that sugar price went up from Rs 2,750 per 50kg bag to Rs 3,020 per 50kg bag, good quality ghee/cooking oil from Rs 870 per 5 kg/litre pack to Rs 1,020 per 5kg/litre pack, Lipton Yellow Label tea 1/2kg pack from Rs 485 per pack to Rs 520 per pack, all brands of normal sized pack of spices from Rs 55 per pack to Rs 65 per pack, chicken from Rs 5,400 per 40kg to Rs 5,700 per 40kg and wheat flour from Rs 770 per 20kg bag to Rs 800 per 20kg bag.
Sugar in retail was available at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, good quality Basmati rice at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 140 per kg, and packed spices like Shan, National and others were being sold at Rs 65 per pack against Rs 55 per pack.
Chicken in retail was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 155 per kg, while chicken meat was being sold at Rs 300 per kg against Rs 280 per kg. Egg prices witnessed a further reduction from Rs 84 per dozen to Rs 78 per dozen in wholesales market while in retail market eggs were being sold at Rs 85 per dozen.
Prices of all the major pulses also witnessed a slight change as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 170 per kg, while normal quality at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 135 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 185 per kg against Rs 170 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 130 per kg.
The survey observed mixed trend in the prices of vegetables as tomatoes prices went further down from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 50 per kg against 75 per kg, onions price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, and potatoes price went up from Rs 75 per 5kg to Rs 90 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 20 per kg.
Local garlic prices went further up from Rs 500-525 per 5kg to Rs 550 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 145 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, and Chinese garlic price went up from Rs 550 per 5kg to Rs 575 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 155 per kg. Local ginger price went up from Rs 650 per 5kg to Rs 730 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 160 per kg.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 380 per 5kg to Rs 330 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 90-95 per kg, yam (arvi) price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 60-65 per kg; carrot price remained stable at Rs 130 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 30 per kg, radish price went down from Rs 150 per 8kg pack to Rs 130 per 8kg pack which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 30 per kg, and peas price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg.
Cucumber price went up from Rs 145 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, cauliflower price went up from 150 per 5kg to Rs 175 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, cabbage price went up from Rs 75 to Rs 90 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg against Rs 18-20 per kg.
Okra price went up from Rs 450 per 5kg to Rs 570 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, brinjal price went up from Rs 175 per 5kg to Rs 200 which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 55 per kg and ridge gourd (tori) price remained stable at Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Pumpkin price went down from Rs 325 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 70-80 per kg against Rs 90-80 per kg, tinda went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, beans price went down Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 80 per kg against 100-95 per kg, Bitter gourd (Kareela) price went down from Rs 650 per 5kg to Rs 620 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 130-140 per kg against Rs 160 per kg.
Overall fruit prices witnessed an increasing trend as Iranian Kala Kolo apple was available at Rs 225 per kg against Rs 150 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 110 per kg, white apple at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 85 per kg, Ambri apple at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 75 per kg and Pakistani Kala Kolo apple at Rs 250 per kg against Rs 145 per kg.
Good quality local banana was being sold at Rs 100 per dozen against Rs 90 per dozen, normal quality banana in the range of Rs 60-70 per dozen against Rs 50-60 per dozen, while Indian banana was being sold at Rs 210 per dozen. Good quality guava was available at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 75 per kg and normal quality guava was available at Rs 50-60 per kg against Rs 40-50 per kg.
Best quality oranges (Red-blood Malta and Khanpuri Shakri Malta) were being sold at Rs 220 per dozen and Rs 250 per dozen against Rs 160 and Rs 140 per dozen respectively, normal kinnow in the range of Rs 110-130 against Rs 60-90 per dozen, pomegranate at Rs 230 per kg against Rs 210 per kg.
