A slight decrease in prices of essential food items was witnessed in retail market, said a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday. Prices of important kitchen items like pulses, sugar, vegetable, chicken meat fall from Rs 10 to 20 per kilogramme in retail market, the survey noticed.
A downward trend in price of tomatoes is continued as available at Rs50 per kilogramme, which was selling at Rs 60 and Rs80 per kilogramme in last week. Ginger is being sold at Rs 200 and Rs 240 per kilogramme, while price of onion is still 'high-side' as being sold at Rs40 and Rs50 per kilogramme in open market.
Similarly, the survey was noticed that price of Chinese garlic is remained unchanged as available at Rs 100 per kilogramme while other being sold at Rs 160 per kilogramme. Lemon is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogramme, showing an increase of Rs 20 per kilogramme in local market.
Apple, round gourds are being sold at Rs80 and Rs 100 per kilogramme against the price of Rs80 per kilogramme in local market, it added. Capsicum is available at Rs 100 and Rs 120 per kilogramme against the price of Rs80 per kg, while Arvi priced at Rs80 per kilogramme and peas are being sold at Rs80 and Rs 100 per kilogramme.
Similarly, price of green chilli also fall in retail market as available at Rs 200 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs 250 per kilogramme in last week. Cucumber is being sold at Rs50 per kilogramme.
Price of ladyfinger is being sold at Rs80 and Rs 100 per kilogramme, cauliflower priced at Rs50 per kilogramme, cabbage at Rs40 per kilogramme. Potatoes are being sold at Rs 20 per kilogramme, turnip at Rs 25 per kilogramme, the survey said.
Carrots are available at Rs50 and Rs 60 per kilogramme. A bundle of radish is being sold at Rs 20 and Rs 30. Bitter ground (karela) is being sold at Rs80 and Rs 100 per kilogramme, the survey said.
The survey witnessed that the price of living chicken/meat has gone up at Rs 171 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs 166 per kilogram in the previous week. However, the rate of farm eggs is continued to decline in retail market as available at Rs90 and Rs 100 against the rate of Rs 110 per dozen last week.
Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogramme and Rs 140 per kilogramme in retail market Sugar is being sold at Rs 65 and Rs 68 per kilogram.
It is noticed the prices of pulses/food grains remained unchanged in retail market. Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs 150 per kilogramme, while the same quality rice available at Rs 140 per kilogramme in local market. Tota rice is being sold at Rs70 and Rs80 per kilogramme.
The survey noticed that big size white chana is available at Rs 140 per kilogramme, while some shopkeepers are selling the same quality white chana at Rs 120 per kilogramme. Similarly, there is visible difference in prices dal mash as some vendors charging Rs 120 per kilogramme, while other Rs 140 per kilogramme in local market.
It further witnessed that dal masoor is being sold at Rs90 per kilogramme while some shopkeepers are charged the commodity at Rs 110 per kilogramme. Likewise, dal chana is being sold at Rs 120 per kg while some charged at Rs 140 per kilogramme. Dal chilka (green) is being sold at Rs 130 per kilogramme, while dal chilka (black) available at Rs 140-150 per kilogramme in retail market.
A visible variation in prices of white lobiya was noticed as some shopkeepers charged Rs 120 per kilogramme while other sold at Rs 100 per kilogramme. Dhoti dal priced at Rs 110 per kilogramme and Rs 120 per kilogramme. Moong is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogramme, while others selling at Rs 110 and Rs 120 per kilogramme.
According to the survey, prices of cooking oil/ghee were remained unchanged in retail market as available within range of Rs 150, Rs 180 and Rs 200 per kilogramme/litre.
Fruits as a staple food, are available at high rates in provincial capital market in Peshawar. Melon is being sold at Rs80 per kilogramme; guava is available at Rs80 and Rs 100 per kilogramme.
Apples are being sold at Rs 120 and Rs 150 per kilogramme, orange at Rs80 per dozen, kinnow at Rs 60 per kilogramme. Strawberry is being sold at Rs 250 per kilogram in local market.
