Co-Chairman Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have so far failed to submit replies to the questionnaires handed over to them by Combined Investig-ation Team (CIT) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with the fake bank accounts scam.
"The duo did not submit their replies to NAB's CIT within stipulated time," an official source said, adding that both the top PPP leaders did not contact NAB to grant them more time for producing their questionnaires. Both Zardari and Bilawal had appeared before NAB on March 20 and the investigators questioned them for two hours with respect to three cases. After recording their statements, the CIT also handed over questionnaires to the duo regarding three cases and directed them to submit replies within 10 days to investigating team.
Sources said that three cases against Zardari and Bilawal pertain to Park Lane Estate Company, a Karachi-based firm allegedly acquired by Zardari in 1989. In 2009, Zardari and Bilawal became shareholders of the company, they said.
They said that Bureau had started an inquiry against Park Lane Estate Company (Pvt) Ltd and officers of Capital Development Authority (CDA) in response to an allegation of illegal transfer of land.
The CDA illegally allotted 118 kanals and 14 marlas of land of Punjab Forest Department to M/s Park Lane Estate Company (Pvt) Ltd, they claimed. Billions of rupees were purportedly transferred to the company's accounts through fake bank accounts and company acquired loans of billions of rupees from different banks.
