Business Advisory Committee Monday decided to limit and control expenditures in line with the already adopted austerity policy of the Senate administration, but was of the view that the trichotomy of power as well as autonomy as provided in the Constitution does not make the decision of the executive binding on other pillars of the state.
A special meeting of the Senate House Business Advisory Committee was held here at the Parliament House to discuss controlling the expenditures of the Senate. The meeting was presided over by Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.
The committee, which consists of leader of house in the Senate, leader of the opposition in the Senate, chief whip and parliamentary party leaders of all political parties represented in the Senate, decided to limit and control expenditures in line with the already adopted austerity policy of the Senate administration.
But the committee was of the view that trichotomy of power as well as autonomy, as provided in the Constitution, does not make the decision of the executive binding on other pillars of the state. The House Business Advisory Committee endorsed the position taken by the Finance Committee of the Senate, mandated under the Article 88 of the Constitution regarding recent executive decisions and restrictions.
The chairman Senate observed that the Senate Secretariat is already curtailing expenditures which can be limited without compromising the parliamentary functionality.
Congratulating the newly re-designated secretary general of the Senate, the committee endorsed the decision of the chairman Senate in view of the contributions and services of Amjed Pervez Malik in development and strengthening of parliamentary procedures at national and international level.
The meeting was attended by Leader of the House Senator Shibli Faraz, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Senator Dr Ashok Kumar, Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar and Senator Azam Khan Swati.
