There are more than 50,000 absconders in Sindh province and among them 22,171 are declared absconders in cases related to Karachi Range of police. It was revealed in a compliance report of Sindh Police which they submitted in Sindh High Court (SHC) in hearing of a case of murder in which two accused are absconders.
The report was furnished in compliance with the orders of the SHC bench headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar. It stated that the total number of absconders stood at 22,171 in Karachi Range in which Malir district leads with 6,064 absconders followed by Districts Korangi and West with 3,819 and 3,617, respectively.
Larkana Range has the second highest number of absconders: 13,155. In Hyderabad Range, the number of absconders stood at 6,301. There are 3,970 absconders in Shaheed Benazirabad Range followed by Sukkur 3,812 and Mirpurkhas 782 absconders, respectively.
Report stated that Legal Wing of police was to contact Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to name the absconders in Exit Control List (ECL) in compliance with the orders of the high court. NADRA would also be contacted to block CNIC of these absconders.
Later, hearing the petition of a woman Nooran against non-arrest of two accused in the murder of his son, the bench ordered police to arrest the absconders in this case within fifteen days.
The petitioner stated that her son was murdered in the jurisdiction of Al-Falah Police Station Karachi, two years ago. Among the six accused in this case, four are on bail whereas two are absconders. She informed that court the two absconders were living in interior parts of the province, at which court ordered their arrest.
The SHC ordered that police party should be constituted to arrest them after counsel for the petitioner Zulfiqar Jalbani told the court that police had not been arresting them even after knowing they were residing in their homes.
Meanwhile, a division bench of SHC ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to complete the inquiry within four weeks against Ijaz Jakhrani, former federal minister in Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)government, for 'assets beyond the means' charges.
The court extended bail of Jhakrani till May 04, 2019. NAB prosecutor told the court that apart from "assets beyond the means" inquiry, other inquiries against Jakhrani are also underway and one is related to his alleged involvement in money-laundering case. Jhakrani, who appeared in the hearing, told the court that he provided all relevant record in this particular case.
