Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and ex-president Asif Ali Zardari of using the alleged 'NRO' granted in Hudaibiya case to Sharif family as the model for money laundering. According to the Media Office of the PM House, the prime minister stated these while speaking to Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry who called on him on Sunday.
The prime minister said that money laundering would have been eliminated from the country if Hudaibiya case was decided on merit and an NRO was not granted to Nawaz Sharif by General Pervez Musharraf(retd). He said that unfortunately NRO in Hudaibiya case was used as a model in other cases of money laundering, adding that the same model has been used in all the cases of money laundering unearthed so far in which the money was transferred and retuned back to the country through 'front men'.
"The same model [Hudaibiya case] has also been used in cases [of money laundering] of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari," Prime Minister Khan was quoted as having said. It further stated that the prime minister directed information minister to apprise the masses about the details and also with regard top economic misdeeds of previous governments due to which country is facing hardships.
He further directed the minister to share the details with public, who are facing price hike and foreign debt, through the media and expose those who are misleading the nation. The prime minister said previous governments should be held accountable for about $ 60 billion foreign debt in last 10 years so that to expose those who have filled their own purse with the huge amount. He said money laundering and keeping properties on other's names will be discouraged through new rules and regulations devised by the government, adding that the new rules will help in discouraging the money laundering and keeping properties on others' name.
