Prime Minister''s Advisor on Commerce, Industries and Production and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood has expressed dissatisfaction at negative growth in exports in March 2019. In response to a question whether there was any need to have a Commerce Ministry as exports are showing negative growth, Dawood stated that exports were going well in the previous months but the results of March were not good. However, he said, the good thing is that imports are contracting due to which trade deficit has declined, and hopefully at the end of current fiscal year, imports will be compressed by $ 6 billion.
The exports were down to $2.1 billion in March 2019 against $2.2 billion the month before, showing a negative growth. The final figures are yet to be released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday (today). Asked how the target of $ 25 billion will be achieved in 2018-19, Dawood stated "I am worried. I have nothing to hide. Exports are not performing well. Exports can perform well in April."
