The BJP leadership seems to have lost its marbles as it has said it will scrap decades-old special rights for the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir so as to "integrate" the state more closely with the rest of the country. Political leaders in Muslim-majority Kashmir, where India is battling a freedom struggle against its rule, have warned that repealing the law could trigger unrest on an unprecedented scale.
Unfortunately, however, India's ultra right government headed by Narendra Modi, the then chief minister of Gujarat who presided over the anti-Muslim pogrom in the past, is least concerned about gross human rights violations by Indian armed forces in the Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. This government in particular has unleashed the most abominal wave of terror for Kashmiris. The global community must respond to Kashmiris' plight without any further loss of time.
