A subcommittee of Senate Standing committee on Communications Tuesday showed grave displeasure over the absence of Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Jawad Rafique Malik from the meeting. Convener Committee Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi said that had been the fourth time since the chairman had been summoned but he did not attend the meeting which showed the level of respect he had for that august forum.
While discussing a point of public importance raised by Senator Lieutenant General Salahuddin Tirmizi (retd) regarding payment to the land owners whose land had been acquired for construction of roads from Kaghan to Babusar Top, the subcommittee showed dismay on the NHA's slow progress.
Additional Secretary Communications Dr Tashfeen Khan apologised for the sluggish attitude of the organisation and said he would personally ensure that things were expedited. He instructed the NHA to hold meetings with the landowners along with the area deputy commissioner to resolve the issues at the earliest. He said that determining the gap between the NHA's offer and the landowners' demand was the first step towards resolving that issue.
Senator Behramand Tangi said the presence of Dr Tashfeen in future meetings would be appreciated. Among others, the meeting was attended by Senator Lieutenant General Salahuddin Tirmizi (retd), Senator Fida Muhammad and senior officers of the Ministry of Communications.
