Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will undertake a two-day official visit to Japan on April 22 to discuss prospects of cooperation in all the areas of mutual benefit, including political, economic, education and training of Pakistani workers.
According to Spokesperson Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Kuninori Matsuda Tuesday met with Foreign Minister Qureshi and briefed the latter on his upcoming visit to Japan.
Qureshi is undertaking the visit on the invitation of his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono.
During the meeting, he said that the two sides discussed a wide range of issues and expressed satisfaction over the positive growth in the relations between Pakistan and Japan.
Japan is a key economic partner of Pakistan and has made important contributions in supporting Pakistan's development efforts over the years, the spokesperson said, adding that the foreign minister's visit to Japan will further enhance the already existing friendly relations between the two countries.
"It would provide an opportunity to both the sides to discuss prospects of cooperation in all the areas of mutual benefit, including political, economic, education and training of Pakistani workers under the Memorandum of Cooperation on Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP), as well as issues of regional and global importance," he added.
He further said that the Japanese ambassador assured his government's full support to enhance bilateral relations with Pakistan and said that the Japanese side looks forward to receiving the foreign minister in Tokyo.
Qureshi was earlier scheduled to visit Japan from February 24 to 27, but the visit was postponed in the wake of escalation of tension with India after the February 14 Pulwama incident in which a suicide bomber killed and more than 44 Indian paramilitary troops.
