Former Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif Tuesday appeared before Combined Investigation Team (CIT) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with the assets beyond means case.
The senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) appeared before NAB's CIT for recording his statement with respect to assets beyond means case. "The NAB's CIT questioned about his assets in Pakistan as well as abroad," a source said.
He said that Asif also submitted some record before the NAB's CIT and assured the Bureau investigators that the remaining record will be provided soon.
Asif during a brief chat with media persons said that he was asked to appear along with his bank record and he is ready to answer the questions of NAB officials. When he was asked if the NAB is registering the cases against opposition parties, he said that he will not comment over it.
The NAB on August 16 last had authorised an inquiry against Asif over his alleged involvement in money laundering and having assets beyond known sources of income that caused a loss of Rs 3,668.671 million to the national exchequer.
Earlier, the NAB started complaint verification against Asif in March 2018 on a complaint filed by Deputy Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Usman Dar, who also hails from Sialkot, the hometown of Asif.
Dar in his letter sent to the NAB claimed that Asif had accepted that he was also a UAE Iqama (work permit) holder and had remained involved in money laundering. The PTI leader also claimed that Asif is accused of concealing his offshore assets from the Election Commission of Pakistan.
