Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi on Saturday released from Camp Jail upon submission of surety bonds and fulfillment of formalities. Abbasi's son and the PML-N workers received him upon his release from the jail amid slogans. Before his release, Abbasi's son met his father at Camp Jail. The Lahore High Court (LHC) had ordered to release Hanif Abbasi on bail in ephedrine quota case after the suspension of his life sentence. Hanif Abbasi submitted two separate surety bonds worth of Rs 10 million and he was released upon the receipt of court's orders.
Earlier, Hanif Abbasi was shifted to Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail from Sheikh Zayed Hospital. Moreover, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique met the party leaders and workers at Camp jail. Talking to them on the occasion, Saad expressed satisfaction over bail of the PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi. He said the PML-N is facing difficult time but this time would pass.
NNI adds: The court had ordered Abbasi to appear in each hearing of the case until final decision of the court. He is under treatment in the coronary care unit (CCU) of Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Lahore as his health deteriorated earlier this week. According to hospital sources, Abbasi is suffering from heart and kidney related issues. "The electrocardiogram (ECG) of Hanif Abbasi carried out at the hospital showed variations." The PML-N leader was arrested just four days before the general elections in the country last year. A former MNA, Abbasi was to contest the 2018 general elections from NA-60 Rawalpindi. Hanif Abbasi was granted bail after eight months and 22 days of captivity, during which he remained in Adiala Jail, Kot Lakhpat Jail and Camp Jail. Abbasi faced charges of misusing 500kg of the controlled chemical ephedrine, which he obtained for his company, Gray Pharmaceuticals, in 2010. The court, in its verdict announced after six years, had ruled that 363kg of ephedrine quota could be accounted for, adding that Abbasi failed to provide evidence of the use of remaining quantity of the drug.
