A large number of Lady Health Workers and Lady Health Visitors on Monday staged sit-in outside the provincial assembly building and blocked busy Khyber Road for all kind of vehicular traffic in Peshawar to press their demands. In Peshawar, all routes, leading to main Khyber road completely jammed for several hours that caused great difficulties to motorists and commuters and people walked miles due to massive gridlock.
The protesting LHWs and LHVs were holding placards and banners, demanding health professional allowance, proper service structure and regularization of their services. The protesting Lady Health Workers had partially opened roads after the government announcement to form an eleven member committee, comprising on government and LWH representatives under supervision of additional secretary health. The committee will submit its report within next two weeks.
But, the protesters said they will not end their protest until assurance by Provincial Minister and Secretary Health. The protesting LHWs demanding restoration of service structure, provision of health professional allowance and resolution of their up-gradation and promotion issues. A large number of Lady Health Workers from different parts of the province are participating in the protest.
The LHWs said the provincial government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had made several assurances to them about restoration of their service structure, up-gradation, promotion and providing other facilities, but no implementation was made. They said they are extremely concerned over their future due to the existing status of their jobs.
The LHWs said the salaries of the health workers have not been paid in many areas of KP for the last six months due to which they are facing many difficulties. The health workers warned that they will observe complete strike from their duties in hospitals if the provincial government failed to implement the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding provision of facilities to the LHWs.
