Rejecting reports about major reshuffle in the federal cabinet, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has said that changing the portfolios of ministers comes under Prime Minister Imran Khan's discretionary powers.
While addressing a summit here on Monday, Fawad Chaudhry said "Reports on the performance of ministers have already reached Prime Minister's Office." He further said, "Ministers are ministers because the Prime Minister is satisfied with them."
"The Prime Minister has the authority to make changes in his cabinet and change of any sort will be announced," he added.
The minister said that Finance Minister Asad Umar would give a briefing on his recent meetings in Washington with International Monetary Fund officials with whom he had discussed a bailout package for the country's ailing economy.
Chaudhry said that there is no reality in the news report regarding change of ministers. The media should play responsible role in this regard, he added. The minister said Pakistan is passing through an important phase and such kinds of speculations will not be in the country's interest.
Chaudhry expressed confidence that China and Pakistan together will emerge as big players in the field of technology. He pointed out that Pakistan and China have always remained great friends. He said that future belongs to technology and Pakistan has to embrace modern technology to move forward and keep pace with the world.
Fawad said, "We have to support our technology companies and facilitate our youth to acquire scientific and technological education." The minister recalled that there was a time when Pakistan used to manufacture transmitters and radio equipment locally but now everything is being imported.
