The technical experts of Pakistan and India on Kartarpur Corridor will meet today (Tuesday) at Zero Point on international border to discuss various technical aspects of the corridor including the customs and immigration formalities.
Diplomatic sources said that the team of technical experts from relevant departments and agencies will exchange views with their Indian counterparts during the second round of talks of the technical experts with focus on issues related to customs and immigration for facilitation of the pilgrims intending to visit Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.
They said that the two sides will discus the length and width of the road as well as other technical issues. During the first round of technical talks on March 19, they said that most of the technical level aspects including the road alignment and its demarcations, which have already been finalised.
They said that both sides jointly surveyed the coordinates of the Zero Point and discussed the technical details, including finished road level, high flood level, etc, and had also agreed on some technical aspects of the corridor while the remaining modalities are likely to be agreed in Tuesday meeting.
"Our position is clear that we want to open the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, before the 550th Birth Anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, to allow devotees from India to visit the Gurdwara," said Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal.
The meeting is taking place at a time when Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi last week made startling statement that Pakistan has 'credible intelligence' that India is planning more military actions against Pakistan, perhaps between April 16 and 20.
However, responding a question during his weekly media briefing last week, Dr Faisal stated: "It must be noted that Kartarpur Corridor is a separate subject and has no link to the threat emanating from India. Pakistan propounds that these escalatory measures should be avoided and our resolve should not be tested, otherwise, we will give the same reply as we did on 27 February 2019."
