The Karachi Port handled 143,341 tonnes of cargo comprising 84,790 tonnes of import cargo and 58,551 tonnes of export cargo including 10,363 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargos of 84,790 tonnes comprised of 64,645 tonnes of containerised cargo; 161 tonnes of bulk cargo; 6,284 tonnes of DAP and 33,850 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 58,551 tonnes comprised of 57,913 tonnes of containerised cargo; 80 tonnes of bulk cargo and 558 tonnes of wheat. As many as 10,363 containers comprising of 5,041 containers import and 5,322 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,343 of 20's and 1,674 40's loaded while 72 of 20's and 139 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,440 of 20's and 1,001 of 40's loaded containers while 470 of 20's and 705 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely Hyundai Mercury, Mayssan and Albaz carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were eight vessels viz. OOCL Chicago, CSL Santa Maria, Oriental Sakura, MTM Mumbai, Venus Bay, Da Zi Yun, Lian Hua Song and Norderney carrying containers, oil tankers, rice and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
A cargo volume of 157,492 tonnes comprising 136,592 tonnes of import cargo and 20,900 tonnes of export cargo including 4,467 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 136,592 tonnes includes 15,500 tonnes of palm oil; 16,923 tonnes of steel coil; 3,070 tonnes of palm kernel; 11,626 tonnes of coal; 8,500 tonnes of soyabean seeds; 7,000 tonnes of chemical and 63,973 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 20,900 tonnes includes 20,900 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 4,467 containers comprising of 3,367 containers import and 1,100 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
There was one ship namely African Falcon carrying palm kernel sailed out to sea on Wednesday afternoon. A total number of eight vessels were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean seeds, palm kernel and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
As many as ten vessels viz. Thor Madoc, Indigo Flora, Marlin-V, Alani, Pike, Dory, Melati-6, NCC Haiel, Beat Rice and Bunga Almanda respectively carrying coal, palm kernel, diesel oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours. There were two vessels viz. MOL Generosity and Dory carrying containers and palm kernel respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday
There was one ship namely MOL Generosity carrying containers due to arrive on Wednesday, while two more ships namely Tempanos and Maersk Bentonville carrying containers are due to arrive on Thursday.
