Senator, Prof Sajid Mir, Chief of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, on Saturday termed the Federal Cabinet reshuffle as an 'invisible' mindset that intends to introduce presidential form of government but warned that any such adventurism may wreck havoc on the national unity.
Speaking at Meet the Press of Karachi Press Club, he said that the 'star player' without naming Asad Umar, has been replaced by an unelected economic advisor, showing that there is a mindset to stuff the cabinet with mainly outsiders to virtually place a presidential form of government. "This government had no preparations," he added.
"The presidential system will create huge destruction towards the provinces, no matter how great it performs," he warned, saying that the parliamentary system is a bond between the federation and provinces since it provides a sense of participation of the federating units in the central parliament. However, he termed both - presidential and parliamentary forms of rule as 'democratic'.
He also opposed to any outside move to topple the PTI government, saying that "we will only support the in-house change," to replace the government, he said, adding that the opposition parties are closing towards a unity to form a coalition to steer a protest against the PTI rule. "No next government should come undemocratically," he said, adding that the nation has already suffered a lot from rules came through coup d'état over the past.
Sajid Mir warned that the failure of the federal government will widely affect the provinces that will receive a domino effect eventually. He said that those who widely supported Imran Khan before the general elections will soon recognize his failure. He said that the government's economic failure is not good for Pakistan, adding that the poor in the society is the worst victim of the soaring inflation. "The government should make better economic policies to help poor," he added.
As long as this government is in office, he said, no economic growth is expected, saying that the captain is responsible for the failure his team met with but the selectors cannot be spared from the blame either. "The team [federal cabinet] selection was poor from the first day of this government," the Senator said, adding that the premier does not have a control on the matters related to his government, as one day he praised Asad Umar the other day he asked him to quit the ministry. To a question, he said that his relations with the PML-N are all weather tested and intact. "We are still Nawaz Sharif's ally," he said.
