Sindh High Court (SHC) Monday expressed dissatisfaction over the submission of reports of old joint investigation team (JIT) into May 12, 2007 carnage and directed the provincial government to submit its reply for constitution of JIT on this tragic incident in two months.
A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Aftab Kalhoro issued these directions in a petition regarding non-constitution of JIT to probe the tragic incidents of May 12, 2007 under the orders of high court.
Petitioner Iqbal Kazmi had moved the court and submitted that Sindh Government had not constituted the JIT whereas the inquiry tribunal has been formed under the court orders.
In September last year, SHC had ordered for constitution of JIT and inquiry tribunal to probe May 12, 2007 carnage and killings on the arrival of then deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in 2007.
In the previous hearing, SHC bench had issued notices to provincial government to submit its reply for non-constitution of JIT. In today's hearing, Sindh Government attorney submitted the reports on JIT, which received the displeasure of the bench by terming these reports of old JIT.
Court directed provincial government to submit the reply for the constitution of JIT under the court orders within two months.
Sindh Government informed the court compensation has been paid to 42 victims of this carnage so far. Court sought the details of compensation paid to the victims.
Petitioner submitted that high court in its verdict had given two weeks time to the provincial government to constitute JIT.
Meanwhile, a division bench of SHC issued notices to federal government, Cabinet Division, Law Ministry and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in a petition related to advertisement for recruitment in KPT.
Petitioner Salman Mujahid Baloch, former MNA of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) submitted in the petition that advertisement for recruitment in KPT is illegal as urban centers of Sindh have been ignored in it due to quota system.
Petitioner sought the court orders to restrain Pakistan Testing Services (PTS) to conduct the test for inductions in KPT. Petitioner also termed the advertisement in contravention to Articles 9, 14, 25 and 27 of the constitution. Petitioner also submitted that the advertisement is also against the decision of Recruitment Policy of federal government in 2014,
Court issued notices to respondents in the petition to submit the replies by May 13, 2019.
