District Khyber bags 16 gold medals by securing 226 points and lifted the overall trophy of the Merged Tribal Districts Games which concluded at South Waziristan Sports Complex in Wana on Tuesday.
Advisor to the Chief Minister on Tribal Affairs Ajmal Khan Wazir was the chief guest on this occasion and before the star of the last football final match played between Kurram and South Waziristan Districts.
Director Sports, Tribal Districts Muhammad Nawaz Khan, AD Female Nazi Zaki, Event Manager Ayub Khan, Sports Manager Rahad Gul, Saeed Akhtar, AD Scourt Awan Hussain, and large number of players and spectators were also present and witnessed Football and Cricket Match.
There were thundering applauses all around with jam-packed spectators supported South Waziristan team in a thrill-packed football final.
Speaking on this occasion, Ajmal Khan Wazir lauded the organizing committee for involving the tribal youth in healthy sports activities. He said the government is very keen to have more activities for the tribal youth so that they could come up in the main stream of talent. He also lauded the efforts of Director Sports Muhammad Nawaz Khan, DG Junaid Khan and Senior Minister Muhammad Atif Khan for taking interest in holding such big and mega sports events across merger tribal districts. He said steps have been taken to provide much update and modern day facilities to the youth of tribal.
Earlier, the final match was started on fast tempo and Khurram right from the outset of the match dominated the proceedings. Kurram got the lead in the 11th minute when Shahjehan slammed in a beautiful goal on the field attempt while Yasir scored the second goal in the 29th minute to make the tally 2-0. At the end of the first session it was the second session in which South Waziristan reduced the margin through Amir Ullah. Thus Khurram won the match by 2-1.
Ajmal Wazir also witnessed the final of the Cricket wherein Bajaur stunned Khyber by 53 runs. Bajaur batting first scored 123 runs and in reply Khyber bundled out for 70 runs only. It is for the third consecutive time that Bajaur defeating Khyber.
At the end, the chief guest besides witnessing the final awarded the overall trophy to Khyber, followed by District Mohmand with 95 points and District Bajaur got third position with 79 points.
A total of 3000 male and female players took part in 31 different disciplines played at different venues. In cricket Bajaur took first position, followed by Khyber, volleyball won by North Waziristan, followed by Mohmand, Khyber took third position, basketball won by Khyber, followed by Khurram and Kohat, hockey won by Khyber, followed by FR Kohat and Mohmand, Netball won by Khyber, followed by North Waziristan and Khurram.
Rugby won FR Kohat, followed by North Waziristan, Khyber won athletic, followed by Bajaur, Table Tennis, Archery and Baseball won by Khyber, followed by Bajaur and FR Peshawar. Badminton title won by Mohmand, followed by Bajaur, FR Peshawar, Kurram got second trophy of baseball.
Bajaur won bodybuilding title, followed by Khyber and Mohmand, Mohmand got cycling title, followed by Bajaur. In the Handicap cricket FR Peshawar secured the winner trophy, followed by Khyber and Khurram, in the weightlifting Bajaur won first position, followed by Khyber.
In the female table tennis Khyber won first position, followed by Mohmand, in badminton Khyber won the trophy, followed by Mohmand, in female athletics Khyber won the trophy, followed by Mohmand, in volleyball Mohmand won the trophy, followed by Khyber. In the Tug of war Female Mohmand won the trophy, followed by Khyber, in Taekwondo South Waziristan won the trophy, followed by Khyber, in Netball FR Kohat won the trophy, followed by Khyber, in Boxing Male Khyber won the title, followed by Bajaur, in Judo Khyber and Bajaur shared the trophy, in Wushu Khyber and South Waziristan got position, in Gymnastic Khyber won the trophy, followed by Mohmand, in Karate Khyber, Mohmand and Kohat took first, second and third position and in Jujitsu Khyber won the winner trophy followed by South Waziristan. At the end, the chief guest Ajmal Khan Wazir gave away trophies and cash prizes.
