Temperature is expected to soar up to 42 degrees Celsius between May 1 and May 3, 2019, as the Met Office on Saturday alerted the authorities to the heat waves and asked them to take precautionary measures. Winds will blow from North and Northwest during the daytime, it said, adding that heat waves are likely to grip the metropolis over the period. "Day maximum temperature will range in 40-42 degrees Celsius," the Met Office said in its Heat Wave Alert - 1.
Mercury is also expected to touch up to 40 degrees Celsius mark during the next 48 hours with humidity falling to 60 percent. On Sunday, the city is likely to witness up 39 degrees Celsius with maximum humidity up to 70 percent as weather is likely to remain hot. Similarly, temperature on Monday may grow to 40 degrees Celsius with falling humidity to 60 percent, the Met said.
In the next 24 hours mainly hot and dry weather is expected in the most parts of the country with a very hot in south Punjab and Sindh. However, rain-thunderstorm and gusty winds are likely to hit few areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. "Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country," the Met said.
In the last 24 hours maximum temperature was recorded in Mithi and Shaheed Benazirabad as 45, each, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Moen-Jo-Daro and Larkana 44, each and Rohri, Hyderabad, Tandojam and Rahim Yar Khan 43, each. Weather remained hot and dry in the most parts of the country with an isolated rain-thunderstorm in Malakand Division.
