Consul General of Indonesia Totok Prianamto has called for collaboration between Pakistan and Indonesia in all fields of trade, industry, education and more importantly, health. Speaking at the blood donation drive organised by Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF) in collaboration of Consulate General of Indonesia, he appreciated the efforts of AMTF.
"AMTF and its team deserve praise for the outstanding work being carried out for their advocacy and treatment of thalassemic patients in Karachi." President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Junaid Esmail Makda lauded and thanked the Indonesian community in Karachi for devoting themselves and coming forward to donate blood largely for saving lives of thalassemic children at AMTF.
Executive Director AMTF, Ateeq-ur-Rehman, said donating blood is healthy for the donor in many ways. He said blood replaces the donated volume within 3 to 4 weeks which benefits general health. Pouring in fresh blood into body at intervals reduces the risk of hypertension and help lower cholesterol level, too.
He appealed to people of Karachi, corporate bodies, universities and academic institution, etc, to fulfil growing needs of fresh blood. He said AMTF always search new venues for this purpose. Thalassemia patients need regular blood transfusion to augment the blood deficiency in their system so their body functions, properly. He cited AMTF concept 'our patients are our guests' has been a guiding element in their quest to improve standard of care for children suffering with blood disorders.
Founder and CEO, AMTF, Dr Asim Qidwai elaborated AMTF's future plans. AMTF is a pride of Pakistan endeavouring and contemplating to sustain lives of almost 1500 registered children suffering blood disorder and thalassemia through state-of-the-art facilities such as ICU, laboratory, blood bank, day care, dedicated clinics, etc, without cash counter under one roof. KCCI vice president Asif Sheikh Javaid, chairman diplomatic missions and embassies liaison subcommittee Shamoon Zaki, founder/CEO, Corporate Coordinator AMTF Mazhar Qasim and other people also attended the event.
