Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Saturday severely lashed out at Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led Sindh Government for what it believed massive excesses against urban parts of Sindh and resolved to launch struggle for creation of "Urban Sindh" province to redress the deprivations and injustices to urban parts of province.
The party resolved for carving out a new province in Sindh at a public meeting at Bagh-e-Jinnah, which was organised against injustices against urban Sindh and securing the rights for it. The party's deputy convener Kanwar Naveed Jameel presented eleven resolutions in the public meeting, which were adopted by the participating workers loudly when they raised voices in favour of these resolutions. The resolutions demanded Sindh Government to spend fifty percent of collected taxes on the development of urban Sindh including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Sukkur etc.
The resolutions also sought end of unannounced power outages, completion of K-IV project on emergency basis, constitution of judicial commission to probe inductions in government jobs in PPP government, devolution of public transport system in Karachi to KMC, redressal of injustices done with Karachi in national census, re-delimitation of constituencies in urban Sindh, and arrest of killers of Ali Raza Abidi etc.
Speaking at the public meeting, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said Mohajirs knew the value of independence because their ancestors sacrificed lives for the creation of Pakistan. He said people became the masters of country's destiny who had zero contribution for the creation of the country.
Senior deputy convener Aamir Khan speaking at the meeting said the present Sindh has never been one unit and those believe in its "oneness" are actually distorting the history. Aamir also rejected what he said provincial monopoly in the name of autonomy of provinces and said people of Karachi would not be enslaved to Larkana.
Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar addressing the public meeting said local government representatives have been deprived of their powers and stated that he has been trying his utmost to resolve the issues of Karachi, for which he is approaching every political party. He blamed Sindh Government of track record of bad governance and said this has reached to the level that judiciary had to speak out against it. Khawja Izharul Hassan accused the PPP of hatching conspiracies to restrain the federal government from carrying out development work in Karachi.
