Former federal minister and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Central leader, Arbab Alamgir Khan and his wife Asma Alagmir on Monday appeared before the accountability court in corruption case. According to details, a Peshawar accountability court adjourned a case against PPP leaders Asma and Arbab Alamgir till May 27 while allowing Asma to leave the country to perform Umrah.
During a hearing on Monday in the assets beyond known means of income case against the couple, two of NAB's witnesses recorded their statements. Other witnesses will record their statements at the next hearing. Speaking to the media outside the court, Arbab said that the case is progressing very slowly. They're after the salary issue but I never said I didn't take my salary, he said.
Asma Alagmir criticized that the NAB KP is unable to further proceed the helicopter case against the Prime Minister. She added that the helicopter case was deliberately halted despite having proofs against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Asma asked the NAB to take action against powerful people as well, which is a question mark on its performance. She said that NAB should take action against corruption in different departments and projects in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
She thanked the court for proving there was an independent judiciary in Pakistan. The high court has taken my name off the ECL, she said. They're talking about our assets from two years ago, she added. "What happened about the helicopter case? Is the prime minister not a citizen of this country?" she asked, referring to a case against Prime Minister Imran Khan. For four years we have been giving NAB our asset records, she lamented.
It is pertinent to mention here that the accountability court had indicted former federal minister Dr Arbab Alamgir and his wife Asma Alamgir, a former MNA, in a reference accusing them of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
