The World Health Organization (WHO) and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) agreed upon to carry out joint work on vector-borne diseases. The WHO team called on University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf and discussed the area of mutual concerns. The WHO delegation comprised Dr Nhu Nguyen Tran Minh, Dr Mathieu Bangert, Dr Muhammad Tayyab, Dr Jamshaid Ahmad, Dr Irfan, Dr Shahnaz Naseem, Director CDC Lahore, Muhammad Shahzad and Salman Shabbir.
UAF Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Aslam Khan, Chairman Entomology Mansoorul Hassan, Dr Bilal Ahmad, Program Coordinator Dengue Faisalabad Dr Mushtaq and other notables also attended the meeting.
Dr Muhammad Ashraf stressed upon the need to move ahead in the collaboration to address One Health. He said that professionals in public health, animal health, plant health and the environment, should join forces to support One Health approaches in order to prevent outbreaks of new disease, food safety problems and epidemics.
Head of WHO Punjab Dr Jamshed Ahmad called for constituting a team of experts at varsity level to jointly work on zoonotic diseases.
Dr Mansoorul Hassan said that the Department of Entomology is arranging an exhibition on vector borne diseases on April 30. He said that all out efforts were being made to address the issues of different plant diseases, insect and pest management and other related issue at national level.
