Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Ahsan Iqbal have berated the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government for what they said claiming the credit for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams projects which previous PML-N government had begun.
Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House on Thursday, they recalled that the PML-N government had started projects of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams. They acknowledged role of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for these projects was commendable.
They said WAPDA chairman should inaugurate Mohmand Dam as most of the work of the projects had been done in the PML-N government. "Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams should be completed on time to facilitate the nation as billions of rupees had been allocated for these projects," said Kh Asf. He alleged that the PTI government was also trying to claim credit for another PML-N Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project which is generating electricity more than its capacity.
He said it is moral bankruptcy of PTI government. He said the PTI has many discredits which should be criticised. Ahsan Iqbal said that the PML-N government had completed work for acquiring land for Diamer-Bhasha Dam by spending Rs 124 billion and included it in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for financing from China.
He noted that the PML-N government had budgeted Rs 24 billion allocation for Bhasha Dam in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
He said that the PTI government should tell how much money out of that Rs 24 billion it has disbursed on the project.
"Diamer-Bhasha Dam cannot be constructed unless its financial close is made and that cannot be made unless international donor signs to provide at least $8 billion," he said, asking the PTI government should understand the development budget and learn how to use it.
The PML-N stalwart said that unfortunately, the PTI government and former Chief Justice of Supreme Court Mian Saqib Nisar did politics on dams. He accused Saqib Nisar of making the nation fool in the name of dam.
The PML-N leaders also said that PTI government is trying to dissolve local government system in Punjab through a politically-motivated legislation.
They accused the government of trying to impose new LG system of its choice.
They urged that the Chief Justice of Supreme Court should take suo motu notice of it.
