The Karachi Port handled 171,240 tonnes of cargo comprising 129,381 tonnes of import cargo and 41,859 tonnes of export cargo including 11,104 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargos of 129,381 tonnes comprised of 80,971 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,894 tonnes of bulk cargo and 45,516 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 41,859 tonnes comprised of 41,280 tonnes of containerised cargo and 579 tonnes of wheat. As many as 11,104 containers comprising of 5,630 containers import and 5,474 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,610 of 20's and 1,927 40's loaded while 84 of 20's and 41 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,111 of 20's and 651 of 40's loaded containers while 129 of 20's and 1,466 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Irenes Reliance, Clemens Schilte SC Shen Zhen, Malhari and Gulf Horizon carrying containers, chemical and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eight vessels viz. Seaspan Yangtze, Kota Cabar, Maersk Salina, AS Aries, Al Safa, Golden Denise, MT Karachi and Trenta carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
The total import cargo of 152,039 tonnes includes 58,700 tonnes of LNG; 1,500 tonnes of diesel oil; 16,500 tonnes of palm oil; 45,000 tonnes of coal; 2,000 tonnes of LPG; 4,000 tonnes of canola seeds and 24,339 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 50,464 tonnes includes 50,464 tonnes of containerised cargo.
As many as 3,937 containers comprising of 1,281 containers import and 2,656 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. There were three ships namely Maersk Seletar, MOL Gateway and APL New York carrying containers sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely Gaslog Saratatoga and MR Pegasus carrying LNG and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of ten vessels were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, cement, canola seeds, LPG, LNG and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours. As many as nine vessels viz. Xia Men Ze Ping, Thor Madoc, Marlin-V, Pisti, Equinox Dawn, Crimson Kingdom, Hong Dai, Malhari and BW Panthar respectively carrying general cargo, coal, soyabean, chemical and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were five vessels viz. Maersk Brooklyn, Tucapel, Xia Men Ze Ping, Pisti and ISV Windsor carrying containers, general cargo and coal respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Pakistan International Bulk Terminal respectively on Thursday There were four ships namely As Aries, Maersk Brooklyn, Tucapel and ISV Windsor carrying containers and coal respectively due to arrive on Thursday. There is one ship namely Maersk Salina carrying containers due to arrive on Friday.
