Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed increase during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed significant increase in the prices of all major pluses, Ramazan specific drinks, sugar, basin, wheat flour, basmati rice, yogurt, and other items. Chicken and eggs prices witnessed a reduction as chicken was available at Rs 6,000 against Rs 6,200 per 40kg which was being sold at Rs 170 against Rs 175 per kg in the retail market, while chicken meat was being sold at Rs 260-300 per kg. Eggs price reduced from Rs 82 to Rs 72 per dozen which were being sold at Rs 84 against Rs 90 per dozen in the retail market.
Fine quality white lentil (Maash) price went up from Rs 175 to Rs 190 per kg while its normal quality was being sold at Rs 150-160 against Rs 140 per kg, good quality grams price touched Rs 200 against Rs 185 per kg while normal quality grams were available at Rs 160 against Rs 140 per kg, price of kidney bean (Lobia) didn't witness any change as it was available in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg, green gram (Moong) price went up from Rs 120 to Rs 140 per kg, and red lentil (Masoor) price went up from Rs 140 to Rs 150 per kg.
Wheat flour price witnessed increase from Rs 770 to Rs 785 per 20kg bag, sugar price went up from Rs 3,230 to Rs 2,370 per 50kg bag, best quality basmati rice price jumped up from Rs 150 to Rs 160 per kg while its normal quality was available in the range of Rs 135-145 against Rs 125-130 per kg. Traditional Ramazan specific drinks like Jam-e-Shirin price went up from Rs 180 to Rs 210 per 800ml bottle, basin price jumped up from Rs 120 to Rs 135 per kg and lemon price went up from Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,450 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 320-340 against Rs 300 per kg in the retail market.
However, the survey observed that there was no change in the prices of cooking oil, tea, spices and milk as good quality cooking oil was available at Rs 1,050 per 5 litres, Lipton Yellow Label tea per 200 grams pack was available at Rs 210 and fresh milk was available at Rs 110 per liter while yogurt price jumped up from Rs 120 to Rs 140 per kg.
During the week under review, vegetables prices witnessed a mixed trend as onions price remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 65 per kg in the retail market, potatoes price remained stable at Rs 90-100 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 25-30 per kg in the retail market and tomatoes price further went down from Rs 250 to Rs 220 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 55-60 against Rs 65 per kg in the retail market.
Garlic price remained stable as it was available at Rs 400 per 5kg in the wholesale market and at Rs 120 per kg in the retail market, while ginger price witnessed no change as it was being sold at Rs 900 per 5kg in the wholesale market which was being sold at Rs 225 per kg in the retail market.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 330 to Rs 300 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 75-80 against Rs 95-85 per kg in the retail market, yam (arvi) price remained unchanged at Rs 460 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 105-95 per kg in the retail market, China carrot price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 50 per kg in the retail, radish price remained stable at Rs 180 per 8kg pack which was being sold at Rs 40-35 per kg in the retail market, and peas price went up from Rs 375 to Rs 450 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 120 against Rs 100 per kg in the retail market.
Cucumber price witnessed no change and was available at Rs 175 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 50 per kg in the retail market, cauliflower price went up from Rs 275 to Rs 350 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 85 against Rs 70 per kg in the retail market, and cabbage price went up from Rs 175 to Rs 250 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 60 against Rs 50 per kg in the retail market.
