Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Law and Anti-Corruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab while reacting hard to statement of Sindh Governor regarding division of Sindh has said Sindh assembly had given clear message to those who were dreaming of divided Sindh and advised Governor to refrain from such political statement.
He said office of the Governor is a constitutional position and he should act according to constitutional limits. In a statement on Wednesday, the adviser said statement of Sindh Governor was unsuccessful attempt to divert the attention from the lack of ability and failed policies of Federal Government. Wahab said civil society of Sindh has strongly reacted to governor's statement and added that governor should see the writing on the wall.
On other hand while briefing to the media after meeting of select committee which met here to discuss new legislation on police, the adviser said formation of Public Safety Commission was under consideration for maintaining check and balance on the police. He declined the impression that government wanted to keep powers of police.
He added that it is also incorrect that powers of transfers and postings in police will rest with one person in new police law. He said the transfer and postings in police will be done with consultation of Sindh Chief Minister and IG Police. He informed that Public Safety Commission will comprise twelve members. It is also mentioned in police order 2002.
He said unanimity is prevailed among the opposition and government in this regard. He said police order 2002 is also enforced in Punjab. "Why it cannot be in operation in Sindh," he added and said it is promising step by the Sindh government for imposing police order 2002. He said some recommendation has been received from opposition which will be reviewed in the select committee.
He said that this bill contains three important points including independence, setting up of Safety Commission and formation of committees on district and provincial level.-PR
