The Accountability Court Wednesday extended physical remand of Laeeq Ahmed Sheikh till May 13 for further investigation in the Rental Power Projects (RPPs) case. The officials of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced accused Laeeq Ahmed Sheikh, Director of Cannock Global Enterprises Limited (CGEL), before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik for obtaining his physical remand in a case regarding corruption and corrupt practices and misuse of authority in the award of RPPs contract to M/s Karkey Karadeniz Elektrik Uretim.
Prosecutor NAB Usman Masood Mirza said that during the investigation it was found that accused Sheikh has set up an offshore company. He requested the court to extend physical remand of the accused so that more record be obtained during further investigation.
The court asked the accused if he owned any offshore company or the statement of NAB prosecutor is a false one. The accused replied that he did not own any company. Money had been transferred from the account of the accused to his relative's accounts, he said.
Khawaja Haris, counsel for the accused, objected to the NAB's request and said that his client is innocent. The NAB has arrested his client to pressurize Raja Babar Ali Zulqarnain, son of former Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Raja Muhammad Zulqarnain. The court after hearing the arguments of both the parties extended remand of the accused till May 13, 2019.
