MULTAN: The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised farmers to cultivate melon crop from mid-February to the first week of March. Melons are usually cultivated in Multan, Bahawalpur and Gujranwala divisions, said Assistant Director Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kohloon in a statement issued here on Saturday.
Melon is highly sensitive crop and it could not bear intensity of weather, he added. Initially, twice irrigation a week should be ensured so that crop could produce good yield.
In case of severe hot weather, the crop should be irrigated five to six times. However, irrigation should be reduced when mature melons start appearing. It would add sweetness to the fruit, Naveed concluded.
