The newly formed Sales Tax Officers Association of Pakistan (STOAP) Sunday welcomed and congratulated Shabbar Zaidi as Chairman, FBR. The meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of STOAP was held here on Sunday.
During the meeting Mian Muhammad Nasim was appointed as Election Commissioner by the CEC. The Election Commissioner conducted the election and office bearers of the central body of the STOAP were elected for an initial period of two years. Raza Ashfaq Sheikh was elected as President, Javed Hussain Butt as Seniorr Vice President, Muhammad Afzal Malik as Vice President-I, Afzal Khan Afridi as Vice President-II, Noor Hassan as Vice President-III, Asif Saeed as Vice President-IV, Altaf Hussain as Vice President-V, Tariq Nazir as Vice President-VI, Abidullah Jan as Vice President-VII, Arafaat Faiz Rasool Niazi as General Secretary, Tanveer Malik as Secretary Co-ordination, Muhammad Atif Qureshi as Secretary Information, Rana Khurram Shahzad as Assistant Secretary Information, Ghulam Sarwar Shar as Joint Secretary-I, Zulfiqar Ali as Joint Secretary-II, Abdul Shakoor as Joint Secretary-III, Khawar Mansoor as Joint Secretary-IV, Raja Zarrar as Joint Secretary-V, Syed Ahmed Hussain as Joint Secretary-VI, Ishaq Ahmed as Joint Secretary-VII, Faiz Ashraf as Secretary Finance and Shafqat Mehmood as Assistant Secretary Finance. The President STOAP Raza Ashfaq Sheikh passed a resolution that the Sales Tax Officers resolved that although they are part of Inland Revenue Service yet they have not been included in the Inland Revenue Officers Association (IROA), hence it was imperative to form a separate Association of the Officers of Sales Tax. Resultantly, an Association in the name of Sales Tax Officers Association of Pakistan (STOAP) was formed by the Officers of Sales Tax. The office bearers and the members of CEC of STOAP congratulated the newly appointed Chairman FBR with the hope that he would utilize professional and experienced work force of Sales Tax in the main stream to enhance domestic Sales Tax collection, which is currently showing lowest level of growth amongst all four taxes collected by FBR.
It was further resolved that Sales Tax Officers are ready to accept the challenge of enhancement of Sales Tax collection to the desired level, if the new administration assigns this task to them. Moreover, the Officers of Sales Tax, who are themselves product of reform, are ready to render their services as vanguard of reform initiatives of FBR/Government of Pakistan. It was further resolved that the STOAP shall seek time from the newly appointed Chairman FBR to present comprehensive proposals for the growth of sales tax collection.
