The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved record sports projects worth Rs.1.5billion for up-gradation, rehabilitation and construction of new sports infrastructure for neglected youth of the merged districts of the erstwhile FATA.
The development schemes would also be initiated in education, health, road infrastructure, power supply, clean drinking water, irrigation, agriculture, tourism and above all sports coupled with a number of quick-impact projects.
According to Senior Minister, Mohammad Atif Khan, record allocation has been made for the development of sports infrastructure in the region. He said projects including playing grounds, facilities of indoor gymnasium, up-gradation and rehabilitation of existing facilities in all seven districts comprising Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Khurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan and six sub-division including sub-Peshawar, sub-Kohat, sub-Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Sera Ismail Khan has been approved.
There will be 22 new schemes including 5 facilities in South Waziristan, 3 in the North Waziristan, 3 in Kurram, one in Khyber, 4 in Mohmand, 3 in Orakzai and 4 in Bajaur besides 12 facilities would be up-gradated and six would be rehabilitated.
He said they had allocated Rs. 200 million for the recently held first Games in all across merger tribal districts in which a total of 3000 players in 31 different Games took part including female wherein Rs. 40 million has been allocated for all 25 Tehsil grounds.
Likewise, in South Waziristan, a comprehensive project establishing five Sports Stadiums and one indoor gymnasium has been approved at 5 Tehsils of South Waziristan at a cost of Rs. 250 million.
The overall schemes approved including construction of Sports Stadium Balapitah at Tehsil Shakai, construction of Sports Stadium at Tehsil Birmal, construction of pavilion main building ground floor, pavilion main building first floor, two cricket ground, paving around cricket ground, external water supply, Sports Stadium and Football Ground at Ladha would be completed by June 2020.
Another amount of Rs. 151 million has been allocated for the construction of District Bajaur Sports Complex at Nawagai, up-gradation of existing Sports Complex in Bajaur Rs. 40 million, the cost of the other facilities including District North Waziristan Sports Complex at Mira Ali Rs. 94.44 million, Sports Complex at Razmak Rs. 106.416 m, players hostel at Younis Khan Spots Stadium 55.573m, in District Khyber Sports Complex Landikotal Rs. 91.00m, up-gradation of Kala Khel Sports Stadium Rs. 8.80m, in Kurram Sports Complex Tingo Rs. 29.856m, Sports Complex Alizai Rs. 29.856m, Sports Complex Sadda Rs. 37.262m District Mohmand Randyuali Sports Complex Rs. 20.10 m, Ekka Ghuand Sports Complex Rs. 40.00m, Atta Sports Stadium Rs. 20.00m, Cricket Stadium Haleemzai Rs.30.00m, Sub Division Kohat Sports Complex at Darra Adamkhail Rs. 67.00, Sub Dvision Peshawar Sports Complex Hasan Khail Rs. 55.00m.
Sub Division Tank Sports Stadium Tank Rs. 42.00 million, Sub Division Lakki Sports Stadium 41.00 million, thus the total cost reached to Rs. 130.3 m.
About promotion of squash, he said, they have selected 20 schools in Peshawar wherein 20 squash courts would be constructed and a grant of Rs. 500 million for the scheme has been included in the coming ADP.
