IHC seeks Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports, issues notice to NAB
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) sought on Monday the medical reports of incarcerated ex-premier Nawaz Sharif from the medical team.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar took up Sharif's bail petition. During the hearing, Sharif's counsel Khawaja Haris presented the court with Sharif's medical reports. The lawyer told the bench that the medical team which had conducted the ex-premier's medical examination had not provided the test reports to them.
The court then sought the medical report from the team. The IHC issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau, accountability court and superintendent Kot Lakhpat jail. The high court then adjourned the hearing till February 6, local media reported.
On January 26, Sharif had filed an application in the high court requesting to grant him bail due to his medical condition. He is currently serving his jail sentence at Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore.
The ex-premier also requested the IHC to suspend the jail term given to him by an accountability court till a decision was announced regarding his plea. Last week, a medical team conducted a checkup of Sharif and he was also taken to Punjab Institute of Cardiology for further tests.
