Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday summoned Interior Ministry official in the next hearing of the petition pertaining to security threats to Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. A division bench of the SHC headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh ordered Interior Ministry official to appear in the next hearing of the petition on June 13, 2019.
The counsel of Bilawal told the court that his client should be provided security as serious threats are endangering his life. The counsel said that Sindh Government has provided complete security to his client, however adequate security measures are not taken when Bilawal travels in other provinces of the country.
The counsel requested the court to issue directives to provincial governments other than Sindh to provide foolproof security to Bilawal and stated that this is the duty of provincial governments to provide the security. The court observed that how the court can issue orders to other provinces to provide security to Bialwal and said that it is the responsibility of the government to provide security to every citizen of the country.
The court questioned that who was ruling in the center when the court was approached for the first time in 2013 to provide security to Bilawal, at which the counsel submitted before the court that the PPP government was in center, however a new government was installed following 2013 elections. The counsel said that threats to life of Bilawal are based on the reports of intelligence agencies.
Meanwhile, the SHC bench also sought the report from Threat Alter Committee on June 11, 2019 on the threats to life Secretary General JUI-F Sindh Hafiz Mohammad Ahmed after he moved the court for security. The petitioner said that serious threats are putting his life in danger and prayed the court to order the Sindh Government to provide him foolproof security.
