Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday said that "Kartarpur Corridor" project is being completed speedily, while necessary steps are also being taken to ensure its fool proof security. "We expect from India that they will also follow our path and complete the remaining part of Kartarpur corridor on their side so that it is opened for Sikh Pilgrims," the Governor said this while addressing a press conference regarding Baba Guru Nanak Dev Jee's 550th birthday celebrations, here at Governor's House today.
The Governor maintained that the government had acquired about 1500 acres of land from the locals at market rates in Kartarpur, to set up various facilities. For the first time in history, a bus convoy will start its journey in September-"Journey to Kartarpur" to show their love for minorities. This bus convoy will pass through various European countries and will take almost 40 days to reach Kartarpur on the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Jee, he said, adding: "The purpose of this journey will be to apprise the whole world that Pakistan is a peaceful country and wants peace not only in the region but also around the globe."
He said they are focusing more on Sikh religious sites, to promote religious tourism. Media and universities should play its role in creating awareness among people regarding religious tourism, he added. He said that religious tourism in Pakistan has potential of fetching US $ 4-5 billion annually and they are optimistic that under the leadership of PM Imran Khan, Pakistan will make its mark in promoting its tourism industry.
He further said that various meetings of Prime Minister's tourism committees were held to evolve a comprehensive programme for providing facilities to Sikh yatrees including visa services and security besides others on birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak. Not only the Sikhs but also the international community had appreciated the decision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to open Kartarpur Corridor, he said, adding: "The government was making efforts to resolve the issues of Sikh yatrees pertaining to immigration, travelling, security and others.
