Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) has demanded of the provincial government to allocate 30 percent share of Annual Development Programme (ADP) in its upcoming fiscal budget for the erstwhile Fata to bring economic prosperity and development in the tribal districts.
The demand was made by QWP provincial chairman, Sikandar Khan Sherpao while speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, wherein a social activist from Shalma area of Khyber district, Rehman Ali announced to join the QWP.
Flanked by the party provincial leaders including Asad Afridi, Tariq Ahmad Khan, Dr Alam, Haji Ghafran Khan and others, QWP leader said that PTI government didn't focus on development of tribal districts during last nine months but it had released funds for mega uplift schemes since the announcement of holding elections in the erstwhile Fata, what he called it pre-polling rigging. He asked the government to materialize its promises made with tribal people before merger.
He said the writ of provincial government should be established after devolving of all departments and affairs of tribal districts following its merger of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also demanded the transition of complete powers to civil administration and abolishment of unnecessary check points in the tribal region.
Sikandar Sherpao expressed concern over growing unrest in erstwhile Fata, especially incident occurred in North Waziristan which was strongly condemnable and demanded of the government to constitute a judicial commission to probe the incident and the cases should be withdrawn against the allegedly involved people in the episode.
He said the 26th amendment was passed by National Assembly to increase seats of tribal districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but it has yet not endorsed by the upper house of the parliament which was created uncertainty about the holding of elections in tribal districts so he demanded of the government to immediate end the confusion about this important constitutional amendments.
Sikandar Sherpao said that the Torkham border should be remained open around the clock as per commitment made by Prime Minister to give boost to trade and economic relations with neighbouring countries.
When asked about the Awami National Party (ANP) grand Pakhtun Jirga, he said that QWP is yet not decided about joining the Jirga. However, he said that his party had invited to join the Pakhtoon Jamhoori. Earlier, Sikandar Sherpao welcomed the joining of the social activist Rehman Ali into the party fold, which will contest in upcoming elections on QWP ticket in PK-105 Khyber district.
