Prices of perishable kitchen items witnessed a mixed trend during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
The survey observed significant reduction in prices of vegetables and fruits but the retailers have not passed on the benefit of the reduced prices to the end consumers. It has also been observed that most of the retailers are overcharging the consumers and not selling household items at the prices fixed by district administration, while district management just conducts raids against profiteers in a couple of markets and leaves rest of the population at the mercy of profiteers.
During the week under review, onion price went up from Rs 180 per 5 kg to Rs 230 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 55-50 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg, tomatoes price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 40 per kg and potatoes price remained unchanged at Rs 120 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 25-30 per kg.
Local garlic price remained stable at Rs 400 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg; Chinese garlic price remained stable at Rs 650 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 180 per kg, ginger price went up from Rs 1,000 per 5 kg to Rs 1,050 per 5 kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 260 per kg against Rs 240 per kg.
Capsicum prices went up from Rs 120 per 5 kg to Rs 130 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 30 per kg; yam (arvi) price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg; Chinses carrot price went down from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 100 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 40 per kg.
Cucumber price remained stable at Rs 75 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 20 per kg, cauliflower price went down from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 170 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg and cabbage price went down from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 225 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60-65 per kg against Rs 80-100 per kg for. Lemon price witnessed a significant reduction from Rs 1,000 per 5 kg to Rs 600 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 400 per kg. Fresh bean price went down from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
Pumpkin price further went down from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 130 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35-40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, Brinjal price went up from Rs 120 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 30 per kg, tinda price went down from Rs 120 per 5 kg to Rs 75 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg against. Okra price went down from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 120 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35-40 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, bitter gourd price went down from Rs 175 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35-40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, and peas price remained stable at Rs 350 per 5 kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 90 per kg.
Chicken price went down from Rs 6,000 per 40 kg to Rs 5,800 per 40 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 165-175 per kg, while egg price went down from Rs 78 per dozen to Rs 75 per dozen which in retail market was being sold at Rs 84 per dozen against Rs 90 per dozen.
Pulses prices remained stable as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was available at Rs 200 per kg while its normal quality was being sold at Rs 160-170 per kg; good quality grams at Rs 200 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 160 per kg; kidney bean (Lobia) was available in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg; and green gram (Moong) at Rs 155 against Rs 140 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 160 per kg.
The survey observed no changes in the prices of cooking oil, tea, spices and milk as good quality cooking oil was available at Rs 1,050 per 5 litres, Lipton Yellow Label tea 200 grams pack was available at Rs 210 per pack and fresh milk was available at Rs 110 per litre while yogurt price jumped up from Rs 120 per kg to Rs 140 per kg. Wheat flour was available at Rs 785 per 20 kg bag, 50-kg sugar bag at Rs 3,300 against 3,250 per 50 kg bag, and best quality basmati rice at Rs 160 per kg while normal quality basmati rice was available in the range of Rs 135-145 per kg.
Overall fruit prices witnessed a decline as Turkish apple was available at Rs 300 per kg, Iranian Kala Kolo apple at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 200 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 140 per kg, white apple at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 100 per kg and Ambri apple was available at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 100 per kg.
Banana price remained stable as good quality local banana was being sold at Rs 150 per dozen and normal quality banana in the range of Rs75-100 per dozen against Rs 50-80 per dozen. Cherry was being sold at Rs 250 per kg, Langra mango at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 100 per kg and Sindhari mango at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 150 per kg. Various qualities of peach were available in the range of Rs 90 to Rs 120 per kg against Rs 120-150 per kg, watermelon at Rs 30-35 per kg, white melon in the range of Rs 60-80 per kg against, Pakistani dates at Rs 150 per kg, Iranian dates at Rs 250 per kg and apricot was being sold at Rs 150 per kg.
