The government has announced a low-cost housing scheme which will be built in Mauve Areas of the federal capital, sources revealed. The sources revealed to Business Recorder that Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme has been proposed to be built on the land which is meant for the Mauve Areas of Islamabad, according to the master plan.
They said that the allocation of land for Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme has been approved by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board, which is not even authorised to take such a major policy decision, as the composition of current board is not in line with the CDA Ordinance. They said that the summary was moved by the Housing Ministry just a day before the inauguration on April 17 which the CDA Board approved in its meeting on April 16. However, it was a cabinet's domain to do so. As per the master plan, the Mauve Areas in different sectors are specified for government offices in the federal capital and there is not a single housing unit built in any Mauve Area of the city. However, the CDA Board, which is not empowered to take such a major policy decision has given approval of changing the master plan of Islamabad Capital Territory.
According to sources in the CDA, the current decision of approving seven acres of land allocation for the housing scheme in one of the Mauve Areas raises questions as to how the civic body's board, which is not authorised to do so, can give approval of such a major policy decision. Not only this, the Board has also given approval of awarding 508 kanals of land near Askari-VI to Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) for the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme. The sources in the CDA said that both the decisions are illegal as the existing board is not empowered to approve this plan. They further said that strip of land which has been given to build the houses is not enough, even if 100 percent area is covered. In addition, the Mauve Area is part of planned area of Sector G-13 where water and sewerage issues have not yet been resolved. Repeated attempts made by this scribe to get version of the CDA on the issue remained unfruitful till filing of this report.
