The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been moved for the disqualification of two members of National Assembly (MNAs), namely Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, for their alleged involvement in 'anti-state' activities.
In this context, a related petition seeking the disqualification of the two Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leaders has been moved by one Fatahyab Khalid through his counsel Hafiz Muhammad Sufiyan in the ECP. The petition alleges that both Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar are involved in the activities that are against the interest of Pakistan and by indulging in anti-state activities they have violated their oath of allegiance and loyalty to Pakistan as laid down in the Constitution of Pakistan. On May 26, Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar allegedly led a group of men who attacked a picket of security forces in Boyya, North Waziristan. In exchange of fire with security forces, at least three attackers were reportedly killed on the spot. Ali Wazir was taken into custody by the security forces while Mohsin Dawar reportedly escaped who was arrested on May 30. Reportedly, the PTM leaders and their accomplices had attacked the security forces check post in a bid to set free some terror suspects who were rounded up by the security forces in an operation in North Waziristan a few days prior to the incident. In a linked development on Monday, another PTM activist Gulalai Ismail was arrested by the security agencies from Peshawar. The PTM leaders led by Manzoor Pashteen have faced serious accusations of delivering anti-state speeches and strongly criticising the state institutions including the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
