The heat-wave likely to continue across Sindh's coastal areas, including this metropolis in the next 48 hours due to the cyclone 'Vayu' passing close to Pakistan maritime radius, the Met Office said on Thursday. The sea breeze is likely to remain cut-off on Friday and Saturday (June 14 and 15), which may cause a heat-wave like condition in all parts close to the coastal belt of Sindh, including Karachi, it said.
The Vayu has developed into a very severe cyclonic storm that is likely to continue to move in northwesterly direction from its original base on the east Arabian Sea, which is spotted at latitude 20.4 N and longitude 69.5 E, about 540 kilometres southeast of Karachi coast.
"Very severe cyclonic storm Vayu in the east Arabian Sea has moved further north-westward during last 6 hours; now the maximum sustained surface winds are 150-160 km/hour gusting to 175 km/hour around the system centre," the Met said.
The cyclone may also trigger scattered dust-thundershowers in Thatta, Badin and Tharparkar districts on Thursday-Friday. Isolated dust-thundershowers may spread out rest of Sindh over the next two days.
It also asked the fishermen to keep their boats during the uncertain maritime weather on the Arabian Sea. It said that the storm is expected to subside on Friday evening, forecasting a very rough sea with high-tides. The concerned authorities of Sindh should remain alert and take precautionary measures during coming days regarding the impact of storm.
In the next 24 hours: Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in the most parts of the country. Scattered dust-thundershower and rain with gusty winds are expected in Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions. The Met said continental air is prevailing over the most parts of the country. Severe tropical cyclone VAYU in the northeast Arabian Sea has intensified.
