Residents of Ghazi Town, Malir, on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against K-Electric over prolonged and unannounced load-shedding in their neighbourhood despite the vicinity has been converted into the anti-theft Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC). A handful number of protesters including women and children holding banners and paid electric bills gathered outside the power company's office near Malir-15 flyover, blocking roads for all kind of traffic, created hardships for the commuters to make their ways.
They said KE was carrying out unannounced and prolonged power outages despite they pay timely electricity bills. "Ghazi Town has been fully converted into Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) by KE a year back. The power theft is zero, and the billing recoveries are almost a 100 percent," said a protester. "We are star consumers. But, subjected to load-shedding even in this scorching weather," reads a banner. "No water, No electricity. Is this the new Pakistan?" inscribed on a placard.
The residents urged KE to separate Ghazi Town from Memon Goth Feeder, and connect it with Jafar-e-Tayyar Society's feeder. Drinking water is another major issue of Ghazi Town, protesters said. Quoting the Town's Welfare Society officials they said water remains disconnected from KW&SB network for days. The stock in the area tank is insufficient to cater the needs of hundreds of households, forcing the already inflation-hit residents to buy water from shops.
The protesters said they had approached KE area IBC time an again for the resolution of their power issues, but to no avail. They also expressed disenchantment over the elected representatives - Member National Assembly (MNA) Captain Jamil (retd) of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Saleem Baloach from Pakistan People's Party (PPP) for not paying heed to resolve the issues of their constituency, despite they were elected by the residents of Malir with overwhelming votes.
