Iran has rightly rebuffed blame for attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Moreover, it has affirmed its responsibility for security in the Strait of Hormuz where almost a fifth of the world's oil passes. How unfortunate it is that the US has pointed the finger at Iran for Thursday's attacks that drove up oil prices and heightened concern about a new US-Iranian confrontation. That Iran is already suffering from the growing US belligerence is a fact. For example, Islamic republic's
oil exports, its economic lifeblood, have dropped to about 400,000 bpd in May from 2.5 million bpd in April last year. It appears that Washington is seeking to strangle Tehran economically. Does the US President know that he and his team members are in fact working towards causing immense harm to global peace by upping the ante against Iran?
