The Sindh Assembly on Monday opened its post-budget 2019-20 debate with the treasury legislators claiming the PPP changed the outlook of the province in its 10-year tenure but opposition censured government for the poor governance over the past one decade. Sohrab Khan Sarki-PPP lawmaker preceded the discussion, saying that the Sindh government has allocated 'huge' funds for the province development and criticised the federal government for ignoring the three of its hospitals in Karachi of funds in its fiscal the budget. "There was a claim of Rs 162 billion but we could not see more than Rs 12 billion from the federation," he added.
GDA's Razzaq Rahimo said that the Sindh government has failed to help cater to the needs of people in Tharparkar region of the province where food starvation still continues. "Children in Thar are still dying even today," for want of food, he said that over 700 RO plants are claimed to have been installed in Thar but they don't exist in real. He said the government neither allocated funds to cope with food scarcity there nor for setting up a maternity home.
PTI's Bilal Ghafar said that the government again failed to provide water, roads and other infrastructure with health and education. He said that Sindh government's insistent 12th budget even could not envisage the literacy rate growth, adding that the chief minister should let the house know what target in education sector have been set and achieved.
Zulfiqar Shah of PPP slammed the federal government for a strict budget that made the citizens suffer from a high inflation. He called the federal budget as 'anti-people'. MQM's Wasim Qureshi said that government failed to end the copy-culture in Sindh's school and collage examinations as 'copy-mafia' is uncontrolled in the face of state writ. He said that North and New Karachi are facing water shortage despite the chief minister had assured to end the crisis.
PTI's Raja Azhar said that the government exported 4 million tons of wheat to Afghanistan but failed to end starvation in Thar where 450 children died of lack of food. He said that Rs 5 million of schemes have grown into 114 million since there is no check to monitor the spendings and work progress, showing concerns that the despite the huge funds allocations such projects should have completed. He said that the Sindh Local Government Minister had pledged to develop an uplift scheme but in contrary he abolished an under way water scheme.
Ghazal Sial of the PPP claimed that her party government had undertaken several steps to develop education sector and called the fiscal budget as 'best' financial plan. She said that the new budget envisages 12 different scholarships for universities' brilliant students. About 200 new schools will be built in the province, she said. PPP's Ghanwar Khan Isran, Tanzeela Qambrani, Shehnaz Begum, Syed Farukh Shah and others also spoke during the discussion. The house will now meet on Tuesday morning at 10am.
