Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif and PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz met for Nawaz Sharif here at Kot Lakhpat prison on Thursday and enquired about his health.
Sources claimed that Shahbaz Sharif apprised Nawaz about his recent meetings with the opposition parties' leaders and discussed future options. Maryam also apprised Nawaz about her recent meeting with Bilawal Bhutto and future political activities. Maryam is going to hold public meetings across the country from next month. In the first phase, she will visit Sindh and address public meetings and workers conventions in Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas.
Shahbaz Sharif condemned ban on meetings with Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail and termed it a fascist thinking. In a tweet, Shahbaz said: "Niazi saab (Imran Khan) do whatever you want, but the opposition won't let the anti-masses budget to get approved."
He said 'selected PM' is afraid of the 'elected PM', adding that Nawaz's personal doctor has also been barred from meeting him. The Punjab government is puppet of Imran Khan, he added. Nawaz's personal physician Dr Muhammad Adnan was not allowed to meet Nawaz Sharif to examine him. "Nawaz's health has reportedly deteriorated," sources said.
Only family members were allowed to meet the PML-N supremo. The PML-N leaders approached the authorities concerned with a request to let them meet Nawaz under restricted conditions but the request was turned down. "Even in prison, Nawaz scares the incumbent rulers," a PML-N leader said.
An accountability court in 2018 had sentenced the former premier to seven-year rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty in the Al-Azizia reference, one of the three graft cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in line with an apex court order.
Moreover, an activist of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was injured after being hit by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif's car outside Lahore's Kot Lakhpat prison on Thursday.
PML-N worker Rashid Babar had travelled from Gujranwala to Lahore to show solidarity with PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
When the vehicle carrying Shahbaz reached Kot Lakhpat prison, Babar rushed towards vehicle. Shahbaz immediately took notice of the incident and asked his guards to shift him to a hospital for medical treatment. Shahbaz also announced that all expenses for the treatment would be taken care of. Later, Shahbaz visited the hospital to enquire after his health. He expressed displeasure over the incident and announced full support to him.
