Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday rejected the idea of 'Charter of Economy' with the incumbent government, saying the "fake government" which caused an irreparable loss to the economy needs not to be given any NRO in shape of this charter. Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Maryam said: "It is her personal opinion that no charter or talks should be held with a person who was brought into power through fake mandate."
Responding to queries on the government and opposition political parties reaching a charter of economy, Maryam was of the view that signing such a deal would be equivalent to giving an NRO to the so-called ruling party. "It is however for the leadership to decide what will be PML-N's next plan of action," she said.
Responding to a question regarding the Commission of Inquiry that has been formed by the PTI government to probe the rise in debts over the past decade, Maryam said the commission should begin its investigations from 1999 instead of 2008. The Commission should also probe about grants and coalition support fund, she added.
She also called for investigation into the loans taken over the past 10 months by the incumbent government. Maryam said: "The nalaiq-i-azam (incompetent prime minister) has borrowed Rs 5,000 billion in the first 10 months of his government. The total amount borrowed by the PML-N during its tenure was Rs 10,000 billion." She also criticized the government for including representatives of agencies in the commission and blamed the government for creating divisions among the masses.
"Is NAB independent, as its deputy has been made head of the commission?" she wondered. She also raised several questions over impartiality of the NAB and said files against ministers are closed down while the leaders of the PML-N and PPP are arrested without any proof or preliminary stage of investigations."
"Despite borrowing so much money, he (Imran) has not spent a penny to provide relief to the masses, instead he is constituting a commission [to investigate debts] today," she said. "The PML-N has several [development] projects to show for the loans it took that include power projects to produce 11,000 megawatts, Neelum-Jhelum, Kachhi Canal, state-of-the-art, world class motorways stretching to 1,700 kilometres. It also includes world's most expensive operations to eliminate terrorism, like Raddul Fasad, Zarb-i-Azb and Karachi operation."
Updating the status of health condition of Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N leader said Nawaz is "political prisoner" who is suffering from heart disease for the last 15 years and suffered third heart attack in the Adiala Jail last year and it had been concealed from the family. "I want to put the case of Nawaz Sharif's [deteriorating] health before the people of Pakistan and would go to every extent to bring this case forward.
She further claimed that meetings with Nawaz are also being monitored. "When I went to meet him last Thursday, there was a man to overlook the meeting. Even prisoners are supposed to have some rights," she added.
Answering a question, she claimed when counsel of Nawaz met doctors who had examined her father, they told her that every word of their report is monitored and the report had decreased Nawaz's health severity because they are "afraid of losing their jobs".
To another question, she said the six-week reprieve given to Nawaz was only enough to get all his tests conducted but the bypass surgery could not be performed. "Mian Sahib needs to undergo a number of surgeries and all that could not be done in the six weeks he was out of jail," she added. "This is not Egypt and Nawaz is not Mohammad Mursi," she said.
