Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday approved interim bail of Sharjeel Memon, former Sindh Information Minister in "assets beyond means" case till August 6, 2019. The interim bail in asset beyond means case came a day after the SHC granted the bail to Memon in embezzlement of public funds while awarding the advertising contracts to media organizations.
SHC directed Sharjeel Memon to furnish surety bond worth Rs 1 million against the interim bail. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is conducting inquiry against former provincial minister for allegedly having the assets beyond the known means. Meanwhile, a division bench of the SHC set aside the notification regarding five percent reduction in Hajj quota of private tour operators and restrained the federal government from booking on this quota.
Private tour operators filed a petition against the notification which reduced their quota from forty percent to 35 percent and the government started booking on this quota. The court observed that there is no difference on the quota for the government and private sector for Hajj. The court stated that the move to make five percent cut in private tour operators has not justification, which was taken unilaterally.
