Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former provincial minister for education Rana Mashood was barred by the immigration authorities from travelling abroad in the early hours on Saturday. Sources claimed that Rana Mashood was travelling to the United States through a foreign airline but he was offloaded by the Federal Investigation Agency authorities as his name was on the blacklist. However, he was allowed to return home.
Moreover, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Rana Mashood on July 8 in connection with an inquiry regarding misappropriation of funds in the Punjab Youth Festival. NAB has also moved a request to the federal government for inclusion of Rana Mashood's name in the Exit Control List (ECL), the sources added.
On the other hand, Rana Mashood said he was being targeted for political revenge. "I was stopped at the airport for four hours without any reason. I was travelling to the US and was told my name was on the blacklist," he added.
Rana Mashood claimed that after two hours he got in contact with a NAB official, who asked him why he was stopped. "After the flight departed I was told I can leave as there were no charges against me," he added.
