Three bodies retrieved, two rescued: boat with 40 on board capsizes in Tarbela Dam
A boat with over 40 persons on board drowned in Tarbela Dam on Wednesday. At least three bodies of children have been retrieved while two persons were rescued alive. According to reports, a boat with 35-40 onboard capsized due to storm near village Barg Dakhli Keh. The boat coming from Kala Dhaka and was heading towards Haripur. Most of people on board were from Kala Dhaka.
The district administration Haripur has immediately dispatched rescue teams to the place of accident and declared emergency at District Headquarters Hospital Haripur, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Ghazi and other nearby hospitals. The Rescue 1122 teams from Haripur, Nowshera and Peshawar have also started their operation.
The district administration has also requested Ghazi Airbase and Tarbela Dam project for cooperation in the rescue activities. Army divers along with helicopters reached at the spot and started search operation in the area.
Three bodies of the children have been recovered, two persons were rescued alive and 30 to 35 persons are still missing after a boat capsized in the Tarbaila lake where rescue workers and locals are busy in searching rest of the boat passengers.
Rescue workers were facing difficulties in search operation owing to speedy flow of the water due to which boat capsized, a medical camp has also been established at Padhana under the supervision of Additional DC Haripur.
Provincial Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Akbar Ayub Khan and Deputy Commissioner Haripur are monitoring the rescue and search operation in Tarbela Dam. The district administration has also issued an alert for all departments concerned and directed the families of the ill-fated passengers to contact district control room number 0997-613389 for information.
