Although Pakistan is already exporting rice to China but there is still more room for increasing the quantity. There is also a demand for Pakistani vegetables and mangoes in China which may be exported after better processing. Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Nauman Ahmad Langrial said this while addressing a seminar on 'CPEC and opportunities for agriculture' arranged by the Punjab Agriculture Department on Wednesday.
The Minister said the stage for free trade between Pakistan and China is ready under the CPEC but there is a need that our companies dealing in agriculture be given a chance to explore Chinese market besides getting ready to develop joint ventures with other international companies. The seminar was also attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Lala Tahir, DG Agriculture (Extension) Dr Anjum Ali Buttar, DG Research Dr Abid Mahmood, Shahzad Sabir Chief CPEC Cell and others.
The Minister said the government was taking solid steps for increasing the agricultural products exports from Pakistan. He claimed that the government was removing the tariff and non-tariff barriers to enhance agricultural trade with China. He said the CPEC cell was playing pivotal role in enhancing agricultural trade between the two countries. It is also creating awareness amongst the growers and the exporters regarding opportunities under the CPEC.
He said eight MoUs have already been signed between Pakistani, Chinese and Turkish companies as a result of efforts being carried out by the CPEC cell. Academia from different universities also briefed the participants of the seminar regarding CPEC route and opportunities to increase exports of agricultural products.
