A sharp increase in prices of daily use items, like pulses, vegetable, chicken meat, sugar and others was witnessed in the retail market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday. The buyers complained the unchecked prices of essential commodities reaching beyond their purchasing power of common man and urged the authorities concerned to take measures to control over the increasing prices.
Price of good quality rice (sela) has gone up at Rs 160 per kg which was selling at Rs 140 per kg in local market, while a noticeable increase in rate of toota rice was witnessed as available at Rs 100 per kg against the price of Rs 70 per kg.
A sizeable increase in rate of dal mash was noticed in local market as being sold at Rs 190 per kg against the price of Rs 140 per kg. Similarly, the price of dal channa has risen at Rs 150 per kg which was selling at Rs 120 per kg. Dhoti dal was available at Rs 180 per kg against the price of Rs 140 per kg.
Big size white channa was being sold at Rs 180 per kg, showing an increase of Rs 30 per kg in retail market. Moonge was available at Rs 140 per kg against the price of Rs 130 per kg.
The retail price of white lobiya has gone up at Rs 150 per kg against the price of Rs 130 per kg in the last week. Red bean was being sold within range of Rs 120 per kg and Rs 140 per kilogram and Rs 180 per kg.
Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against the price of Rs 140 per kg in the previous week. Some shopkeepers are selling sugar at Rs 75 per kg while other at Rs 70 per kg in local market, according to the survey. It added that prices of flour have jumped up at Rs 50-55 per kg and Rs 60 per kg.
Dal chilka (black) was available at Rs 140 per kg while dal chilka (green) priced at Rs 130 per kg. Dal channa is being sold at Rs 120 per kg. According to the survey, the prices of cooking oil/ghee of different brands and quality were remained unchanged in the retail market as available within range of Rs 170, Rs 180 and Rs 200 per litre/kg.
The survey noticed the price of live chicken/meat has increased in local market as available at Rs 146 per kg which was selling at Rs 131 per kg in the last week. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs 80 and Rs 100. Butchers are continued squeezing consumers by charging manifold rate of cow meat, which is being sold at Rs 400 and Rs 450 per kg due to unchecked by authorities concerned.
It was noted that fresh milk is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against the official fixed price of Rs 80 per kg. Yogurt was available at Rs 120 and Rs 125 per kg against the official fixed rate of Rs 90 per kg.
The survey witnessed that the prices of veggies are sky-high in local market, as peas is being sold at Rs 150 per kg, arvi at Rs 120 per kg and capsicum at Rs 80 per kg.
However, the price of tomatoes has gone down at Rs 20 per kg which was selling at Rs 30 per kg in the last, while onion prices are still high-side as available at Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kg in local market. Ginger is being sold at Rs 160 and Rs 200 per kg.
Chinese garlic was available at Rs 150 per kg and locally produced garlic priced at Rs 100 and Rs 120 per kg. Lemon is being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 120 per kg. Green chili is being sold at Rs 150 per kg. Cucumber is being sold at Rs 30 and Rs 40 per kg.
Cauliflower is being sold at Rs 40 per kg which was available at Rs 50-60 per kg in last week. Cabbage is being sold at Rs 50 per kg. Bitter groud (Kerala) is being sold at Rs 80 per kg. Bringle was available at Rs 40 per kg. Tori is being sold at Rs 40 per kilogram, while apple and round gourds are being sold within range of Rs 60 and Rs 70 per kg.
The prices of fruits also decreased in local market, the survey said. Water melon is being sold at Rs 20 per kg against Rs 30 per kg; melon is being sold at Rs 30 per kg against the price of Rs 50 per kg in the previous week.
Green coloured apple is being sold at Rs 120 per kg against the price of Rs 100 per kg in the previous week, while red-coloured apples are being available at Rs 150 and Rs 200 per kg in local market. Peach is being sold at Rs 150 per kg.
